Background

Libraries Where You Live started in 2013. As a resident of a small apartment complex in southwest Houston, the founder noticed that she never saw the kids with any books. When she asked some of the kids if they had any books to read for fun, they said no, so she was determined to do something about it. She first consulted with educators, family and friends to learn about the types of age-appropriate books and local book fairs. She then approached her apartment manager who supported the idea of placing books in the apartment office for kids in the complex to check out at their leisure. Thus, Libraries Where You Live was born. Currently, we are providing books to apartment complexes that have after-school programs and have donated over 300 books to promote reading initiatives.
